Fifteen In Photoshop There is a well-known artist you may already know: Rene Magritte Though a painter, for our purposes he is interesting because his work to challenges our perception through the use of space manipulation and masks. In looking at his works, Magritte invites us to question what we are seeing and how we actually see it. Instead of buying into conventional Renaissance-based depictions of perspective, we see our expectations break down right before out eyes. Spaces are collapsed or endlessly expanded, while foreground and background elements are indistinguishable. Through this work, Magritte invites us to challenge perceived realities, and to question the comfort with which we engage our surroundings. |
